The Course Review Committee is responsible for reviewing syllabi that have been submitted by departments/schools for the new IDEAs in Action General Education curriculum. Each faculty member on the committee will specialize in one particular Focus Capacity or other area of the curriculum. A standard rubric for each requirement will be used for the evaluations. Each Gen Ed request will be evaluated by two independent faculty raters from each committee (randomly assigned). At least one rater is outside the department of the course. In cases where there is a split decision, a 3rd rater will be assigned.

Instructions

Committee members will review each syllabus to determine that the Student Learning Outcomes (SLO) and the Recurring Capacities (for Focus Capacity courses only) are present and that there is clear alignment between the SLOs and the course assignments/activities/readings. The evaluations will be submitted using an online Qualtrics form. Each team will have a OneDrive folder including all syllabi and a spreadsheet for each rater.

Detailed instructions will be sent (by email) to each team member prior to their starting date, including a link to access their OneDrive folder. Most teams will having 2 review periods corresponding to the 2 course submission deadlines:

  • Phase #1 deadline = October 15, 2019
  • Phase #2 deadline = February 1, 2020

Note: A separate review by graduate students and administrative staff will verify that each syllabus includes all the required elements (e.g., grading scale, final exam, policies and resources).
